ok. so i am completely new to this world. i've read a few topics on here and the term "hacking", being an ambiguous term, i've learned that there are certain schools if you will, when it comes to this type of work. so that being said, what i want to do is gain the knowledge of how to access a computer that i'm not close to geographically.
let's say i'm across town or in a different town and i want to access my computer from there and pull information off it, where would i begin to learn how to do that?
now, please bear in mind that i have absolutely ZERO literacy when it comes to this type of thing. i've read a couple topics on here and the language is completely Greek to me. i have no clue on what to do with coding, command prompt etc although i really would like to learn.

would anybody be so kind as to steer a humble noob in the right direction?

thank you

Have a look at Secure Shell.

Don't forget VNC, that one is pretty useful too (albeit less safe).
