Advertisement Alteration

([msg=16681]see Advertisement Alteration[/msg])

Is there any way to disable or alter the code of the ContentLink ads? They are incredibly distracting and frustrating. First of all, they highlight words that aren't necessarily of high importance in the sentence and throw off the flow of the general structure. Second, they pop up every time you swipe over them and take quite a while to realize that's not what you wanted and go away.

I would like for you to either remove them (understandably unlikely) or alter the code to produce results onHover instead of onMouseOver. I don't like stuff obscuring my view.

Also, I've included a poll for other members. :)

For just a mere $10 donation the ads will be taken away for ONE WHOLE MONTH!
Had to say it like a shitty salesman sorry.
Well if you get rid of the ads hts will be completly dependant on donations.
Im off, last year of school and all, I had something longer but char limit fucked that up. So yeah, had a good run here. Thanks for the memories. Thanks to the staff and users.

Best regards, your posting whore,

The staff of HTS will never get rich with the money we donate or with the money they collect from hosting ads. But at least the costs for hardware, hosting fees etc etc should be covered with our donations. As the donations are not enough to cover this expenses its logic to seek other income sources. Adds are a small part of it.
So if you don't want to see Adds -> donate more. Otherwise accept the Adds and be happy enjoying HTS.

I think that it's fine the way that it is. If you don't like ads, donate money so we don't have to get money from advertisements.

I'm going to ask Kage to comment on this thread.
Specifically I'm going to ask Kage to reply to:
a) How much the server costs per month
b) Where we get our money from (broken down donations, store, different types of ads, your own money, etc)
c) At what threshold you would be willing to disable the ContentLink ads for the month?
Perhaps we could do something like at $100 each month the ads are disabled and are then enabled for the next month.
d) Provide us with more information with regard to money (anything else that might be relevant).
e) Can the ads be altered to work onHover instead of onMouseOver?

Thank you for at least acknowledging the fact that I wasn't merely asking to have them removed entirely.

To everyone else that replied to this thread: I have no problem with ads. In fact, I enjoy google ads. I think they're easy to notice but not intrusive. That's what bothers me about the ones that I have. I'd prefer 10 ads around the edges of the forum in place of the contentLink ads. As far as donating: I'd love to. Unfortunately, I am poor. My concern more or less was that the ads pop out at you without warning. The onHover option would solve the problem, if it's possible, and allow ContentLink to still work as intended but without bugging the crap out of everyone.

ContentLink doesn't really highlight that many words.. It doesn't bother me at all. Plus, just don't move your mouse over the words that do have a double underline, and it won't pop out at you. :P
