You're doing something wrong then... It really should only take a few minutes max. You need to find out what kind of hash it is.
Here's a hint: A Hex Editor can help you find information in certain files...

Also, use Cain, JTR can't crack this one.

Cain & Abell can crack it, it should only take 2 minutes (Even with a 512MB RAM, 1.0GHz CPU)

So you either have the wrong type of hash, or you're telling cain & abell it's a different hash file than it is...

Well I tried a very different way I think, and I googled and found some hash file just for this mission! Is it possible I got the right thing? Anyway I don't see how bruteforce attacks can take only to minutes (I used this method on c&a and so many years it will take!)
