How many of you went to a college to learn about security, programming, networks, or computers in general? If you did what did you learn and why? If you didn't why not and do you regret it? Thnkz

I went to college to understand computers. So far i've learned C++, Java and MySQL with Derby, C, Assembly through MIPS (basic knowledge), VHDL (basic knowledge) and a bunch of other stuff.

I did it because i've always loved computers and felt entertained working with them, my only regret is sometimes it is a lot of work with programming outside of classes.

Well im currently in college for computers, but not in the sense that you're talking about here (im going for digital arts, making graphics and games)
Most things on the computer i taught myself (mostly through trial and error)
for instance i taught myself html, and javascript
how to build a computer
some networking
repairing computers (both repairing the OS and parts)

and other things like that,
however at my college i took 2 classes for c++ and a class in java, but i did expand upon those more by myself

as far as if i regret it im going to say no, it gives me more of a freedom to learn what i want to learn, at the pace i want to learn it. If it takes me 3 years to learn something just for a hobbie i have no problem with that. I am however very serious about digital arts and am going to college for it, and couldnt think of anything id rather be doing
i think it boils down to what you want to do, and what you currently do
if you have a lot of fun with computers, and like learning them but its a hobbie go ahead and take some classes, read books, dont stop learning, but i think college should be reserved for what you are REALLY passionate about (not to say im not passionate about computers, ive just made my choice)
however if you are that passionate about computers go for it!

Most of what I know about programming or general stuff is self taught.

The discipline of formal education (namely college) helped a lot though.
