Wow, this is shady. :)

You bid with credits which must be purchased before you start bidding. 1 credit ~ $1
For every bid the price of the item goes up $0.01 and 1 credit is deducted from your account.

There is a listing of previous auctions that shows an iPod worth $624.95 was purchased for $22.85!
The thing is that they are basically redefining the value of a dollar for bidding purposes.
Assuming everyone that bid on that iPod bought credits with the maximum bulk discount $1 -> $0.015
the site took in around $1530 from all the bidders for that iPod. :o

Something does seem very shady about this website....

I think tgoe explained it, it's basically like a scam you can do with friends.
Tell your friends that they whichever of them will pay you the most can have five dollars.
The catch is they need to pay even if they don't end up winning.
You will probably end up with more money unless somebody offers a high amount to start with.
The site got around this by forcing people to move the price up slowly.
It's a rather good idea actually.
