Re: Fake Website Problem

Most people who will fall for fake site phishing are the same people who couldn't tell you what a URL is or even locate it on their screen. The chances they'd even notice lack of SSL or a url that isn't even vaguely close to ABC.com is remote.. and with URL complexity because of web applications eve...

Re: Panama Papers

I've been following.. company claims "hacker", looks more like to me someone on the inside didn't like what they were seeing after a while and caved to their good conscience.... way to blame hackers for uncovering your illegal activities... don't think much will come of it though, few head...

Re: Need help with making a hacking game

Not sure if you've pulled up the Steam catalog lately but there are actually a ton of hacking simulators and role playing games based around hacking. (See: Hacknet, Uplink, Hacker Evolution, etc). I've never tried any of these so I can't speak to if they are any good or not, I've heard good things a...

Re: what is the actual average age of a hacker?

i think the type of hacker might skew this alot.. i think the money earning professional hacker is going to skew a lot older.. and the idealists, hack it for the lulz or for some cause is going to be a lot younger.. just from my own experience.. when i was young i thought I could hack the planet for...

Re: Home Web Server

Which version of CentOS? You'll want to setup your IPTables firewall to only allow traffic on the appropriate ports that you want access to. 80 for http, 443 for https, 22 for ssh (if you want to allow it). I'd edit sshd.conf and disallow root login for ssh. Install Fail2Ban. Google securing Centos,...

Re: Opinions on White Hat Hacking to protect Insecure hosts

Breaking into a system against the owners will, no matter what the reason is still illegal and wrong. Consider this, breaking into someone's house and making sure all the batteries in the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are fresh. While a noble act, you're still breaking and entering. Now what's...

Re: HTS Official Logo Competition! (Now - April 30)

It's pretty nice but the Guy Fawkes mask is a little over the top, everyone associates that with Anonymous and while there may be some in the ranks I don't believe there is any explicit relationship. Very good graphics work though indeed.

Re: should we have a point system?

A little bit of trollery is what makes HTS special, plus I think a point system that leads to direct bans could be abused, remember there are some actual hackers here.. consider registering enough users to downvote someone they don't like or agree with to get them banned. Plus it's a bit kitchy, rig...

Re: Important or unimportant points about using "vi?"

I'll admit to being lazy. First thing I do is make sure nano is installed. And for that matter rarely use that, maybe for a quick edit on a conf file.. as a developer most of my file edits are within an IDE and on local development box with a GUI. The most used tools are GIT, SCP and the command lin...

Re: How to Fix ‘ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS’ Error

Is this on a specific site? Try updating chrome to the latest version. If it's site specific (eg: a site you are designing using something like wordpress) try removing some plugins and/or updating your installation.
